Certainly! In simple terms, TXT (Text) records are a type of DNS (Domain Name System) record used to store text information associated with a domain. These records contain human-readable text and are often used to provide additional details about a domain. Common use cases include verification for services like email authentication (SPF records), domain ownership verification for web services, and other purposes where text information needs to be associated with a domain. Think of TXT records as notes or labels attached to a domain, providing information that computers or services can read and use for various purposes.

TXT (or text) records are not generally used to locate servers on the internet, but to prove to external systems that the domain is yours, or, that mail from certain hosts can originate from that domain (they’re called SPF records). It’s very unlikely that you’ll need to ever manually create a TXT record, but we offer the flexibility just in case.
